The proposed album is composed of music from villages all over Ukraine. Here very different music pieces are presented, those of different-origined, different-styled and intended for different situations. Here a medieval dance "Zgur" from Poltava neighbours Vienna waltzes recorded in Ternopil region, and touching lyrical songs are written down together with ritual Christmas vocal pieces.
In each of the presented regions a certain kind of ensemble with its typical instruments was usual. In the Poltava region (01, 07, 11, 12, 18) there were such instruments as two fiddles, a bass and a drum. The second fiddle and the bass would play the accompaniment, providing the rhythmic background. For the region of Ternopil (02, 05, 06, 17) an ensemble of two fiddles, cymbals and a big drum was usual. Both fiddles would play the melody, while cymbals together with the drum would serve as rhythmic background. Until 1939 in the region of Carpathians only two musicians would be invited to weddings to play a fiddle and cymbals. Later a flute ("frilka") and a drum joined them. All these instruments would play the tune that filled all the sound space (16).
