Traditional instrumental music of Polissya, except for Carpathians, is the richest and the best kept in Ukraine. It is a resalt of perpetual inaccessibility of these regions (moor - forest and impervious mounts, which slowed down outer civilisation influence), and the large role of a pastoral economy (that often influences dominance in culture of instrumental music over vocal one).
In the Western Polissya one can distinquish three basic categories of the national musicians - professionals, which are in turn presented on the disk : wandering singers, shepherds and, "triple musicians".
